A compass is an instrument that can help people find things on the earth. The COMPASS project is intended to help scientists to find scientific resources in the digital universe, and to find resources that relate to specific locations on the earth.

It uses ontologies to do this, and provides intelligent management, discovery and execution of scientific resources, demonstrated in the coastal marine domain.
